At Radio 6 Vallées, we set up and dismantled the studio every weekend. Before speaking into the microphone, we had to make everything work. That closeness to the tools has stayed with me: technology and broadcasting are two parts of the same job.
Radio Air Libre brought live broadcasts and field reports, followed by Sud Inter, Kiss and Fréquence 1. We also used cassettes for programming. Automation did not begin with computers, although it sometimes took a little imagination.
At FM Le Soir, I hosted evening music programmes, then the breakfast show from 6 to 9. At SIS, mornings combined news, games and traffic reports. I also worked in advertising production.
Those years taught me to switch between styles, talk to listeners and stay calm when something broke down. Useful skills that tend to last in radio.
